Blackett’s Circus
was one of the most publicized operation research groups on Great Britain.
During Second World War Professor P. M. S Blackett of the University of Mancherter
was the director of this group. The group was formed by eleven members. They
were-
- 3 Physiologists.
- 2 Mathematical physicists.
- 1 Astro physiologist.
- 1 Army officer.
- 1 Surveyor.
- 1 General physicist.
- 2 Mathematicians.
The group was formed
for the following reasons:
- For increasing the early coming radar systems;
- In empty aircraft gunnery;
- In empty submarine war-fare;
- In civilian defense;
- For determining convoy size; and
- For conducting bombing raids upon Germany.
